When you attempt to shut down Windows XP, youâ€™ll get a warning message telling you to shut down the currently running applications.The message is displayed for each and every running program. This is annoying and slows your computer shutdown process.

5. Edit the AutoEndTasks key so that it has a value of 1. If the key doesnâ€™t exist, create it as a DWORD value and give it the value of 1.

6. Close the Registry Editor.

7. To disable this hack, either delete the AutoEndTasks key or set its value to 0.

10 things you should do when your Pc/Laptop/Computer Freezes or Hangs Up .

You are in the middle of doing your work, suddenly you realized your computer hanged up. But the problem is, you have not saved your work! Don’t panic! There is a solution for that! And you can surely save your file! Here’s how:

1. Click on “ctrl-alt-delete” keys. The windows task manager will then open, click on all programs that you don’t need and end the task. You will see that all programs on your taskbar will close one by one. If this will resolve the issue! – then save! (tip# 1: if you’re working on an MS Office application, it will automatically save your file in case the programs suddenly shut down — tip# 2: always save your file at least every 2 minutes by just simply clicking on the “diskette icon”— its just one click!)

2. If it did not resolve the issue, are there some users logged on that computer? If so, go to switch user (for XP) and log off that user, go back to your log on screen and log on again.

The reason the computer hang up is because if there are many open programs and applications, these retains in the memory, if it is too much for the memory to handle, it freezes! Another reason too the computer hang up is because if you are connected to the internet via dial up, and you are running too many applications and opening many websites. So I suggest, if you are multimedia user or a heavy internet user, then you are better off with a higher memory, at least 512Mb of memory.

There are simple ways to avoid computer to freeze or hang up:

3. Clean your history at least once a week >tools>internet options>clear history. I normally set my history to “0”, meaning, when I restart my computer, it doesn’t save history pages that I have visited

4. Delete all internet temporary files >tools>internet options>delete files (do the “offline” content too!)

5. Delete cookies (some do not do this, but I do delete cookies at least once a week!) >tools>internet options>delete cookies

6. Remove unnecessary programs that you no longer use, they are just occupying space and memory! >control panel>add/remove programs

7. Do defragmentation at least once a week >point the mouse to “start” button, then right click “explore”>right click the mouse pointing to drive C (which is usually the main system logical drive) >properties>tools>defragment now

8. You can also check the logical drive’s volume for errors >point the mouse to “start” button, then right click “explore”>right click the mouse pointing to drive C (I repeat, is usually the main system logical drive) >properties>tools>check now

9. It is better to have only one user being logged on. Even if there are many users, make sure the user logs off after using the computer, rather than keeping it logged on and you do the switching of users. Switching users is good as long as you don’t keep all users logged on—I think that is more logical

10. Always shut down properly the computer (do NOT use the power button when turning it off!

If you use Windows XP Professional then it is possible to squeeze an extra 20% out of your internet connection. By default Windows XP Pro holds back 20% of your Internet speed for various services like windows update and spyware checks.

If you want to tap into this locked speed then make the following changes:
1. Go to Start-> Run-> and type gpedit.msc
2. Expand the Administrative Templates branch
3. Expand the Network tab
4. Highlight QoS Packet Scheduler
5. Click on Limit Reservable Bandwidth and check the enabled box
6. Then Change the Bandwidth limit % to 0 %

Once you have done this click apply and restart your PC. After rebooting you should see a noticeable improvement in your net speed.

Safe Mode is most commonly used for troubleshooting purposes of Windows operating system including Windows XP and Vista.The traditional way of booting to Safe Mode in Windows XP, is to press the F8 key during the boot process, to display a list of available boot options.The problem with this procedure is finding just the right place to hit the F8 key to avoid the regular boot sequence doesn’t initiating.

If you find yourself booting to safe mode often.You may find it helpful to include the option for safe mode in your Windows XP boot menu.By a simple method you can add Safe Mode option to the Windows XP startup menu that displays other available operating systems and save yourself from having to press F8 during startup.

It is important that the uninstallation of Windows XP from the computer using command prompt is available only if a successful image of the previous operating system(Windows 98, 98SE, or Windows Me) was created during the Windows XP upgrade.Also note that this trick can only done if you are logged on Windows XP as a user with administrative rights or, and of course as Administrator.

*Boot the Windows XP computer to Safe Mode by press F8 simultaneously before the windows logo appear.

*On the command prompt from the safe mode, just type cd\, and then press Enter.

*Type in “cd\windows\system32” into command prompt and then press Enter.

*Also type in “osuninst.exe” into command prompt and then press Enter.

*An on screen instructions window will appear and it will guide you through out the Windows XP uninstall process to revert to the previous operating system.

Note:

The usual method of uninstalling Windows XP is done by booting into XP normally and uses the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel to remove it. Convert FAT To NTFS Without Losing Data

NTFS(NT File System) is the standard file sytem for Microsoft’s Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems.NTFS file system provides more stability, security and less fragmentation than previous FAT(File Allocation Table) file system used in operating systems like MS-DOS,Windows 98,Windows ME etc.NTFS is the recommended file system for Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems because it’s is more powerful than FAT or FAT32 file systems used in former Windows OS’s, and includes features required for hosting Active Directory as well as other important security features.Windows Vista needed NTFS file system in order to install and we can’t install Windows Vista on a FAT partition.Converting a partition from FAT or FAT32 to NTFS can be done by an inbuilt utility(convert.exe) in the Windows XP operating system.So if you want increased security and faster data encryption,go ahead and convert to NTFS.

To convert a FAT partition to NTFS, perform the following steps.

1.Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.

2.In the command prompt window, type: convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs

3.After doing this the inbuilt utility, convert.exe will attempt to convert the drive for you.

For example,running the command convert E: /fs:ntfs would format drive E: to the NTFS format.You can convert FAT or FAT32 volumes to NTFS with this command.

Warning:

*This is a one-way conversion.Once you convert a drive or partition to NTFS, you cannot simply convert it back to FAT or FAT32. You will need to reformat the drive or partition which will erase all data, including programs and personal files, on the partition.

*Make sure there is minimum 3% free space on hard disk drive partitions for proper conversion.

Note:

*Although the chance of corruption or data loss during the conversion from FAT to NTFS is minimal, it is best to perform a full backup of the data on the drive that it is to be converted prior to executing the convert command.

u can create a Shutdown Button& restart on the desktop.To create a shutdown and restart button on Desktop we have to create a shortcut. To do this first

Right Click on the Desktop and then click New Button. Then scroll down to Shortcut. On clicking it a new Window appears with a blank space saying "Type the location of items". In this space write "shutdown.exe -s -t 5" or "%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 5"

Now the -s stands for shutdown and -t denotes the time in seconds to wait before windows shutdown. Then click Next and give a name as shutdown and click Finish. To apply icons to it simply Right click it and Properties and then Change Icons. For Restart simply change -s with -r like this way "%windir%\system32\shutdown.exe -r -t 10" or "shutdown.exe -r -t 10".

here is a small trick for u...
1) You open notepad
2) now you write: [autorun]
OPEN=INSTALL\aaa.EXE
ICON=INSTALL\aaa.EXE
Now save it but not as a .txt file but as a aaa.inf file.
But remember! And you also need to rember that it is not all of the setup files there are called '.exe but some are called '.msi
3) Now burn your CD with the autorun aaa.inf file included.
4) Now set the CD in you CD drive and wait for the autorun to begin or if nothing happens just double-click on the CD drive in "This Computer"
